Blade Runner 2049
by Alex Rivera
A sequel nobody asked for that turned out to be a masterpiece everybody needed. Villeneuve paints with fog and neon like he's holding a grudge against reality, Roger Deakins finally got his statue, and the Zimmer/Wallfisch score sits on your sternum for 163 minutes. Slower than a glacier and twice as beautiful — bring patience, leave with a new favorite.
